Maya :
Maya is a goddess of nature and the creator of the universe . She signifies deception and stratagem . She is the celestial personification of illusion in a female form . The purpose behind her creation was delusion . A malefic deity, her symbol is the spider who spins the magic web and designs fate . She has been said to be the virgin aspect of the triple Hindu Goddess . Ma means to measure, implying she is the space which measures the immeasurable .
However, to the tantric, Maya is the infinite consciousness having the power to attain infinite forms . She is the measured out space, the divine perception and the power of knowledge . She is also identified with Bhuvaneshwari who weaves spells or personifies the fantasy of the world . Shiva is the cause behind the evolution of this creation and his power lies in goddess Bhuvaneshwari. Her complexion is red like a rising Sun and she has three eyes . She wears the moon in her crown . A hook and a noose in her hand show her controlling power . Maya also refers to Daitya who was the architect of the Asuras . He was son of Viprachitti and father of Vajrakama and Mandodari , wife of Ravana . He lived and worked in and around the Devagiri mountains where he served men as well as Daityas.
