Cult of Rama
This sect is also called as Ramanandi, as it was founded by Ramanand in 15th Century AD . They worship Ram, who is believed to be an Avatara of Vishnu . They are widespread in North India . Their popular centres are at Janakpur in North Bihar, the birthplace of Sita, the consort of Rama, and Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh, the birthplace of Rama and also the capital of his kingdom. The devotee s attitude to Rama and Sita is like that of a servant to his master. Ramanandi sect is primarily ascetic and preaches renunciation.
